Questions Parkhurst asks us

Honest answers, including the ones that cost us the sale.

Our back extension is unbearable by 3pm — blinds inside or shading outside?
If heat is the complaint, outside wins. An exterior zip screen or roller shutter stops most of the sun before it reaches the glass; an interior blind can only manage what already got in. Interior blinds then handle glare and privacy beautifully. Often the honest answer is both, and we will tell you which one earns its money first for your orientation.
Can you fit blinds to original steel window frames?
Yes, and it is most of what we do here. Slim 25mm venetians and cellular blinds suit steel casements well, usually inside-mounted into the reveal so the frame itself is untouched. Where a reveal is too shallow or a frame too delicate we recommend an outside mount instead. Every opening is measured on its own because 1940s frames are rarely square.
Do you charge for the measure and quote?
No. The in-home measure, the samples and the written quote are free across Parkhurst and the neighbouring suburbs, with no obligation to order afterwards.
What does it cost?
Every window is a different size, drop and fabric, so we do not guess. Your quote is itemised per window, which means you can see exactly what each room costs and phase the job if you want to. The number you see is the number you pay.
How long from order to installation?
Everything is made to order, so it depends on the product and fabric you choose. Your written quote states the current lead time for your specific order before you commit — we would rather be accurate than optimistic, especially where motors or wide spans are involved.
Are roller shutters a security product?
No — ours are shading shutters. Rigid aluminium slats on the outside of the glass, built for sun, heat, glare and light control, with useful blackout and privacy when fully closed. Security-rated shutters are a separate product with a different specification, which we can quote on request. We will never imply a shading shutter secures your home.
Do you do repairs, or only new blinds?
We repair. Restringing, tilters, brackets, chains and refitting after painting or a move are all normal work, and usually far cheaper than replacement. If a mechanism is beyond economical repair we will say so and quote the replacement instead.
Is motorisation worth it in a cottage?
Wherever a blind is hard to reach or used constantly — stairwell windows, wide stack doors, skylights and children's rooms. Cords disappear entirely, which is the safest option for a nursery. Many existing blinds can be motorised without being replaced; we will check yours on the measure.
Which suburbs do you cover?
Parkhurst, Parktown North, Parkview, Parkwood, Craighall Park and Greenside. If you are just outside that ring, ask anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you.
Can you match new blinds to ones we already have?
Usually, yes. Bring us a slat, a fabric offcut or a photograph of the headrail and we will get as close as the current ranges allow. Where an exact match no longer exists we will say so up front, and often the tidier answer is to redo one room rather than leave two near-misses side by side.
