Blinds in Craighall Park

Spruit-side family homes with north-west living glass and serious afternoon heat.

Craighall Park has the biggest stands and the biggest openings of the areas we cover, much of it looking towards the Braamfontein Spruit and its green belt. Those long westerly views are wonderful and expensive to shade: wide spans, high heads and the full force of the late-afternoon sun on the living areas.

Scale changes the specification. Wide glass gets split into linked blinds or run as a single motorised screen; high openings get motorised because nobody reaches them twice a day; awnings and zip screens get wind sensors because an exposed spruit-side elevation catches the summer storms first. This is the area where automation stops being a luxury and starts being the only way the shading actually gets used.

Most requested in Craighall Park

  • Motorised roller blinds and linked blinds on wide living glass
  • Folding-arm awnings with wind sensors over patios
  • Roller shutters for shading on hard west elevations
  • Zip screens to make a stoep usable through summer

The Three O’Clock Book

Our guide to sun, heat, glare and privacy around here: the real December and June sun angles, what they do to each elevation, what we would fit at every window and the honest catch with each. Written for Craighall Park houses as much as for Parkhurst ones.
