Blinds in Parkwood

The renovator's belt — modern rear wings behind original facades, and the same afternoon problem.

Parkwood is where the Parkhurst pattern repeats almost exactly: a period face on the street and a wholly modern house behind it. The new rear wing is usually the reason people call us. It has more glass than the entire original cottage, often faces north or west, and turns from the best room in the house into the worst one somewhere around three o'clock.

We quote these as two specifications in one project. Outside, a zip screen or roller shutter over the big opening does the heat. Inside, sunscreen rollers or panel blinds handle glare, privacy and the look of the room. The front rooms then get something slimmer and quieter that respects the original windows.

Most requested in Parkwood

  • Zip screens over stack doors and folding glass
  • Sunscreen rollers and panel blinds for open-plan rear wings
  • Roller shutters where an opening needs heavier shading and blackout
  • Skylight blinds for renovation roof glass

The Three O’Clock Book

Our guide to sun, heat, glare and privacy around here: the real December and June sun angles, what they do to each elevation, what we would fit at every window and the honest catch with each. Written for Parkwood houses as much as for Parkhurst ones.
